Week 8: Diversity in gender & sexuality

I remember reading My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness in class one day and I was not prepared for what I was about to see in this reading. For someone who has never owned or willingly read manga, this was complete to new to me versus the other manga we have discussed in class. Although I am not attracted to the same gender, you can just feel the pressure and struggle the main character is going through with natural psychological changes. There was one funny part in the first chapter where the main character accidentally creates a bald spot on top of her head and tries to cover it up with more hair combed over. I think the style is pretty sweet. The pink background and objects kinda add to the love experience. Not my type of manga but still a decent reading from what I've read.

Wow, the manga  Nausicaa Of the Valley of the Wind  looks like the type of adventure I dream of going on. It's so action pack and even though the manga is in black and white, the crosshatch and line work of art goes great with it. The mange is rough, a little realistic, completely out of this world creatures and situations.  I swear I've seen this style before in an anime where these 2 children end up in another world in the sky because of a special necklace. I only checked out the first chapter, but if I were to continue with this series, I rather see it in motion because it would be more impactful and could get an, even more, an understanding of certain scenes.

Week 14: The influence of Manga & Anime in the West

If you are referring to the question they asked: "do you believe in magic?" I didn't aspect the first reading to be short, but I answered the question in my head and I said, "Yes I do". The connections I made for the story are that the really quiet girl at school is struggling financially and that's why her stockings are ripped and her stomach is empty most of the time. Honestly, I like the medium a lot. When that one weird, smart kid came to the class I couldn't help but laugh because his head is so irregular shaped. And then when he actually popped off the pages just to get a glance at the girl, I can tell he's gonna be my favorite character if I can continue read more. I've read webtoons stories before and I think Annarasumanara  fits well in an online environment because at least for me, it's easier to read and its flows better.
